I like it! :O

The piano chords sound really nice actually, and pretty video-gamey. I also like how you're occasionally going with minor keys, it gives it a vaguely jazzy feel (dunno if there's an actual word for that.)

Glad you enjoy my stuff man, good job on this ^.^

K-Pone responds:

Thanks for the review. When I made this I hoped you'd like it, and that you actually do makes me happy :)

Very nice, actually.

I love how organic this sounds - the panned clicky percussion you have there is really nice too. I like the bells, the plucks, and the chords sound oddly like a sub-bass at times... which is actually a good thing I feel.

The song doesn't really go anywhere, but I didn't really mind that. It's nice. Very relaxing, and structure isn't as important with music like this.

One thing I feel it could benefit from would be some strings or pads to give it a more atmospheric feel, but it's not a necessity and might spoil the minimalistic feel you have going.

Overall, I like it a lot. What software are you using?

StinsonJazz responds:

Hey Geoplex, I appreciate you liking this track. I use Pro Tools 8 as my DAW. Most of the sounds you heard came from a plug-in called Kontakt.

Nice.

I like the slow start - it feels a little empty, but it creates a very calm atmosphere that contrasts very nicely with the eventual chorus (which seemed very fitting.) The piano sounds good, appropriately soft and not too loud, but also easy to hear.

If there was one criticism I had, it'd be the sub you brought in at around 00:35. It feels nice and warm, but a little distracting - and it doesn't quite mesh with the piano. It sounds good after a while, though.

I would suggest that the song might be a bit repetitive, but it's a remix of a VG soundtrack, so there's not much more that can be done with it.

I like it. Sounds good :P

stunkel responds:

Thanks for reviewing man!

For the part at 0:35, I can see what you mean by it being distracting. I needed a way to introduce those instruments, I'll try to work on those sort of transitions in the future.

And I wasn't sure what else I could add to the song that wasn't in the original song DX. I wanted to just stick with the original melodies in the song.

But thanks for the review man! I appreciate it :D

This should be on Liquicity!

While I don't think the mixing is perfect, the general construction and progression of this song sounds quite professional. I think the piano could be brought out and made a little stronger (higher treble would help) but it sounds kinda nicely mellow as it is.

I was actually shocked at certain parts of this song by the melodies you're using - they sound amazing, really. This is inspiring to some extent - I want to move into a melodically calmer style whenever I hear one of your songs, and this one is no exception.

In context to the review below, I think that the bass sounds good (though I suppose the sub could be a bit warmer, but it might end up spoiling the strings and mid-range stuff.) I think the kick could be a little brighter perhaps, it's very low as it is; but I do like how soft it sounds as a result. I think also that the snare has a tiny bit too much treble (it might be the hats though, kinda hard to tell actually) and that both are just a tiny bit piercing in comparison to the rest of the mix.

Despite some flaws, I like this way too much to give you anything but a ten.

Keep it up!

Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully I can get my audio issues sorted out soon and can improve in that aspect more.

I tend to write relatively sedated melodies for my DnB. They're simple but I think they're effective enough to define the mood, and I'm glad you like them too.

Cool!

Was a little confused by the intro as it went on for so long, but I found myself enjoying this. Really liked it a lot past ~02:00-ish, especially towards the latter end of the minute with that build-up. The drop at 03:05 was nice also, I like that acidic lead a lot.

I feel like the song itself is a little empty, but it's not necessarily bad. I'm really used to atmospheric stuff right now so it's what I expect :P

Mixing sounded really good too. The whole song sounds very clean and has a lot of space.

ChasingPresence responds:

Yeah lol I agree it is a little empty, and I should have not prolonged the intro as much, but oh well. Thanks for the review!

Neat!

Some of the chord interaction (I don't really have a better word for this) sounds a bit discordant, but in a good way - it makes it sound spacey :P
I feel like the clap should be louder, but that's probably because I'm really used to DnB at this point, so loud percussion is what i look for.

I like the amount of space (hurhur) in this, and the pads make it sound very atmospheric and somewhat mysterious. The grindy-bass lead thing also sounds pretty cool, and i like a lot of the FX you're using.

I feel like it should be getting repetitive because the chord progression hasn't really changed, but it's not for whatever reason. You kept it interesting :P

ChasingPresence responds:

Thanks for the awesome feedback! Keep up your great songs too :D

I think I forgot to review this.

As usual, I love the intro - it's very similar to a lot of your other liquid stuff, but it doesn't feel boring or repetitive in the same sense.
i love the warm sub, too - it's a little hard to hear, but on some notes it's just perfect; and what's more is that it doesn't drown out the kick at all. On that note, the percussion is great too - a lot better than in your previous tracks (most notably the snare.)
I also love the open/close hats in the breakdowns, they sound a little bit Stan SB-y to me for some reason (don't ask why, I don't know why really.)

I should have mentioned this earlier, but I love the lead melodies, and the pad chords sound really nice. As some others mentioned, it gets a little repetitive, but i'm not really minding that.

Really like this one, as usual :P

Alloud responds:

lol, you're not obligated to! I do appreciate it though! :>

I wanted to work on the way I mix bass and percussion a little bit for this one, so I'm glad you liked those. On my headphones I don't the bass is hard to hear though. D:

You always seem to mention that StanSB guy so maybe I should check him out. d:

Everything's kinda held back melody wise, but I liked them subtle here, and I'm happy you enjoy them too.

Thanks for the feedback.

Loving that intro.

The airy pad you have there is very nice, and those chords following it sound great. I can hear some similarities (it might be the piano you're using) to Design, and the snare sounds the same too - it creates a nice sense of continuity.
The saw lead you're using works nicely, though i feel like it's a bit too detuned to work perfectly with rest of the song. It certainly doesn't sound bad, though.

I'm at the first chorus now, and it sounds good. I really wish the snare was a bit more powerful, but that's really all I can complain about. The pads work very nicely here, and I'm still loving that piano (could be a bit louder, but I don't know really; I'm just nitpicking.)

Not much happens after that chorus, aside from a breakdown and some slight variation on the piano notes; which works. This piece feels very much like some of your previous stuff, in that the percussion makes it feel fast and yet the melodies give a sense of something slow moving and peaceful. I'm enjoying this one.

The outro is beautiful, I wish it went on a little longer. Those soft notes are really nice.

I like it.

Alloud responds:

Awesome review, thanks.

The piano is a staple across the 4 tracks in Blueprints, it's part of the sound I wanted along with floaty pads and strings. It takes on more of a lead role in this and Design though. Also yeah, the snare sample is the same. xD

I'm embarassed about this, but as I mentioned in the description, I lost interest in this track before it was done. Everything (save for the outro) past 3:18 I don't really like. When I go to remaster I'll see if I can realize my original ideas for the second chorus.

I'm glad you liked the little outro. I'm currently starting a little game project and if I get to putting together a soundtrack for it some of the tracks will have that same soft, pretty, ambient sound. ;3

Thanks again for the in-depth review! I'm happy you liked it, despite its flaws (ha).
I'll try and return the favour someday if I find the time.
